July 1st we took a trip out to the abndoned SATCOM station. It was much more delapidated this time then it was the first time we went there two years ago. We'll be going back before the summer ends as we didn't take as many pictures this time as Dave would have liked. Look at the size of that thing!

So anytime I step outside during daylight hours, these two pigeons (who have yet to be named) always fly down to meet me, looking for seed. I suppose it is my fault for feeding them in the first place, and I think I may have gotten them hooked on corn, but they are very persistant things. I sit on the step and put seed on the ground in front of me, then they come strolling over, pecking away at my feet. They come to visit when Dave comes outside too, but as soon as they see it's him, they turn around mid-flight and book it back to the roof of the Opera House. I think it's because Dave won't give them any corn. He's a bad man.

I got a super cool shot of the night sky, leaving the shutter open for a good 15 minutes or more, but the air was so damp last night that condensation formed on the lens, clouding the image. It was so cool too, showing the arcing star trails as the earth rotates. I'm going to try for it again on a drier night

It used to be a camping park, but over the past number of years the Gov't have changed it into a day park, but there are some lovely hiking trails, fossils, a waterfall, and of course the beach. It was freezing cold last night, but he sky was crystal clear. What better time to go out taking night sky shots? This one is orion, hanging out over the Atlantic. I used manual focus, but I couldn't tell if it was focused or not in the dark. This one's a wee bit out of focus but I still loved the way it turned out.

To all of those people that I have opened doors for (literally):

When someone is entering a building ahead of you but they stop, open the door and hold it open for you to go through first, the least you could do is say 'thanks'.

And if one more squat, fat, ugly old woman breezes through said door with her nose in the air as if I am supposed to be holding that door open for her, well, I'll trip her.

At the waterfront with Jupiter & Venus in the sky. This is one of Dave's photos.

You can actually see Venus & Jupiter in the early evening (5:15ish) at this time of the year as soon as you walk out of our apartment door. Even though we're just about totally surrounded by buildings, there's one gap between the Spa next door & the house in our back yard that allows you to see the two planets. It's especially beautiful on a clear evening when the sky still has it's twlight glow.
